The West Side Story MUSICAL
♥ TheWestSide Story Musical♥
I successfully COMPLETED My First Musical !
Honestly I have to say that, I never experience such an INTENSIVE Vocal, Dance & Acting Training ! All the cast include the backstage crew & management have work hard to make this Musical a success .
I'm so proud of myself thatI've done a Musical & received a Certificate .
After all the 10 MONTHS of rehearsal, training, conflicts, problems, bonding, tears, anger, laughter, happiness, sweat, stressed and mostly LOVE, We actually managed to pull this through !
Now Let me tell you My Musical Journey to The West Side Story ♥
It all started in April/ May, when the commotion about joining in the musical is all around . I did not really bother so much because I'm the type of person who is Happy Go Lucky, I will go along with anything as long as it is fun .
So around Mid-June, they actually hold an audition for the musical . At first I told my friends that I can't come because I got a part-time work at Bukit Batok in West Mall as Aussino Sales Assistant . Then one of my friend told to me to get a day off and take part of the audition . I was so confuse during that moment because I did not tell my parents anything & further more my mum expect me to work and get the money .
So after the consideration, I decided to take a day off and go for the audition . There were alot of people auditioning for the musical . Like seriously, if I'm not wrong they actually hold a 3 days Audition at ITE Simei's CeMTA . I went for the 2nd day audition with my friends .
If I'm not wrong my audition number was '073' ahaha Amazing If I can still remember .
The Musical Audition was split into 3 types of audition . There was Vocal --> Dance --> Acting .
For vocal, I sang I'm yours by Jason Mraz . I was so nervous even I friend recorded a video of me practicing before auditioning for the vocal . Facebook --My Profile -- Video -- nervous act !
For Dance, I think I did quite okay but somehow I feel that I over do it -____- ahaha like seriously, you should watched it but some of my friend also over do it also . Facebook -- My Profile -- Video -- 070 - 073 (Alot more)
For Acting, I did quite well because I'm from Drama & I love to act . It is a pair audition for acting, I partner up with my Best Friend Amin, So yea we did quite well !
Overall it was quite a 60/100 chance of getting through for me .
In July, I get the call back and selection for the Cast . I get to be the Under-Study of Action, an aggressive person with screw up family background . So basically that is my character .
So from there the Rehearsal starts .
Even during Fasting Month, we got rehearsal . It was so tiring for us because I were from school & some of us end at 6pm . I did not get to break fast with our family, we straight away go for the training and break fast at there .
During the month of Nov / Dec .
Alot of people drop out from the musical because of commitment problem . Even at that point of time, It was hard for me also because I was working in Sentosa at Song of The Sea .
I was about to give up also but I believe in myself and I tell myself that I can do this !!
My friends and I . We give each other a support & motivate ourselves .
There's was a WSS-Camp . A camp for the Cast to be Bonded ! We attend it and amazingly . I really get to know each other Inside Out .
In Jan / Feb .
The rehearsal are getting Tougher and much more Intense ! 6 to 10 Hours of rehearsal a day ! We get scolded because our performance was not up to the Musical Standard . God ! Our Director, Mr Tony he told us this ' Whatever it standard you put up in the stage, in the end it is Your Show ' . All of us, including me wanted a Good & Musical Standard performance so we really worked hard ! He even push us to the max where people really cannot take it anymore . But we did not give up and strive ourselves to the END !
In March !
This is where it all begins . There's a 1 weeks of Production Stayed Over . From 21 March 2011 to 27 March 2011
During that period of time, we only got that amount of days to rehearsal and perform ! Let me tell you this . During that moment ! We practice Day & Night .
Soon, The day that we all been waiting for have Finally Arrived ! Show Time !
We did quite a few show . - Disable People - Gala Night - Secondary School Student - Saturday Night - Sunday Show
Before EVERY SINGLE Show we did, We actually did a Theater Cheer to get ourselves Warm Up before The show Begins .
At the backstage, we were all nervous especially me because I'm the Opening Person for this Musical . I was so FREAKING NERVOUS ! But I manage to overcome it .
We give our 100%Spirit ! Attitude & ENERGY to the FULLEST !!
We get feedbacks from our friend & family who watched the show, they say that the 'GUN SHOT' at Act2 was shocking!
ahaha ' I love it so much ! During the last day of the show, 27 March 2011 . We celebrate our dear fellow cast Birthday, Hamizah Malek .
We all shed into tears . As the Musical has finally come to the end '
In the end, our director said that . The Higher Management Love it !
Their thoughts on us was Very Professionally Done
PM LEE said that No Other Country can do it like how we do !
At the official opening, ITE students performed the award-winning American musical - "West Side Story".
It was a sign that the college has come a long way since it was established in 1992, said the Prime Minister.
He said: "Hardly any other country has anything similar or comparable to the ITE, and certainly nobody has anything which looks like the ITE and can perform "West Side Story". And this reflects our commitment to have an education system catered not just to an elite or minority, but across the board to all our students."
